Since today was the start of the 2011-12 Colorado Avalanche Training Camp, I was able to take some photos of Semyon Varlamov’s new Reebok Kinetic Fit pads (the glove is still the old Reebok Revoke from last season) and his Bauer Pro 961 (not sure if it is customized at all) mask.

In my opinion, this mask is the best Avalanche-themed mask I have ever seen…and I didn’t even see the thing up close. The left-hand side has a crazy gargoyle Yeti-looking creature carrying a steel bazooka. The top of the mask has the Avalanche logo with a maroon stripe leading to the back. The right side looks (from afar) to be the same as the left.

You can’t tell from these photos, but the maroon paint is not the normal type of airbrush paint. It’s not straight up glitter paint, but it appears to have some type of metallic finish, because it glimmers. I’ll try to get better photos of this effect on Sunday.

The mask’s backplate displays a Russian flag on the left-hand side. The right side has the letters “PT” inside a circle. I am not sure what the mark means.

As for his pads, a pretty solid white-based set of Reebok Kinetic Fit pads. It wasn’t the first time he’s worn these, but you can still tell they’re a new set for the season. I would have love to see this set without any blue marks on the leg pads, just the maroon tribal lines.

Either way, Varly looks sharp in his new digs!
